FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are we really NAKED?

"Not nude, just stripped." We DO WEAR CLOTHES the entire time! "Naked" is just a direct and visual metaphor for the simplicity, rawness, and authenticity we stand for and teach throughout our treks.

Are the guides professionally trained for outdoor emergencies and safety?

YES! We take emergency preparation very seriously. Sierra Rose, your main guide and creator of Naked Treks LLC, earned her Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification through the NOLS: National Outdoor Leadership School of Wilderness Medicine. This specific and vigorous training is the industry standard for outdoor and backcountry guides.

The co-guides she hires as part of the outdoor experience team have been thoroughly vetted and trained for competence and skills, including relevant backgrounds of emergency responder experience.

Both of your guides carry inReach SAT Comm devices, a custom first responder Medical Kit, and more.

Is this overnight camping, like outside?

Sure is! In a tent, sleeping bag, and all.

Please see our Gear page for more details on what's included.

I carry all my own stuff?

In a backpack, on your back, YEP! Don't worry, we provide everything you need: ALL of our favorite lightweight gear from amazing well-known and trusted brands in the outdoor industry. Sierra herself has spent over a decade field-testing the perfect gear for these adventures! You'll love her choices.

How much weight will I be carrying?

Provided gear weight = 11 lbs

+ 6.6 lbs of water (3L bladder)

+ around 5 lbs of food

+ your BYO clothing layers

+ your miscellaneous items.

Total estimated carrying weight = 30-40 lbs max

(depending on size & weight of your BYO items!)

What do I need to bring with me?

All of your clothes, shoes, layers, and personal items.

Please visit our BYO Packing List page for details on what to bring to the trailhead!

Otherwise, PLEASE be sure to visit our Gear page for ALL of the amazing gear we provide!

How many days, and how long are the hikes?

Usually, our treks are for 3 days, 2 nights, and geared toward beginner backpackers at varying paces, averaging 4-5 miles of hiking per day, depending on terrain and elevation gain.

The gear and lessons take lots of time, plus about 4 hours of hiking per day, (plus any additional curriculum you'd like to add if this is a custom trek for your group).

If you'd like a trek more tailored to your experienced group, keep an eye out for our advanced level treks!

If you already know where you want to go and/or take your group, connect with us to create your own custom trek!

Can I use my own personal backpack, or other gear of my own?

You can certainly bring your own gear, if you'd like...

However, it all still needs to pass our Strip Game™ at the trailhead (pack dump game) in order to meet our Naked Treks lightweight gear requirements and simplified regimen, as to not enable over-complicating it.

EX: we will NOT be accepting backpacks any larger than 50 L

*** Keep in mind the trek price is still the same, even if you use your own gear. So you might as well take this opportunity to test out some incredible new gear! You might even fall in love with it, like we did.

What's the food like? I have some dietary restrictions. Can it be tailored for me?

Sierra is quite the health nut herself, and does her best to pick healthy, balanced meals and snacks for optimal nutrition and performance in the backcountry. Rice is a pretty common menu item, as is oatmeal, jerky, dried fruits, nuts, and bars.

Her favorite and most common dinner meals are the amazing dehydrated meals in bags from Backpackers Pantry (incredible ingredients)!

*** If you have special meal requirements, PLEASE answer that question accurately on the registration form so we can adjust your menu accordingly (when you register for a trek, food is one of the questions).

Can we bring or consume alcohol or drugs?

Due to medical response dangers, high elevation affects, quality control of gear, and the overall intention of our treks and curriculum – we have a strict ZERO drug or alcohol policy (including marijuana), and including solo time in your tent.

Any specific circumstances will need to be addressed prior to your trek, and medications privately disclosed to your emergency first responder guides.

*** We ask that you (and your group) please be prepared to honor and respect this policy.

*** The only exception to this policy is for our Private Wedding Elopement treks!

What about dogs or kids?

Naked Treks loves children and furry friends! However, as of right now, all of our treks are for adults only, no dogs, pets, or children (under 18) allowed.

More questions?! . . . JUST ASK . . .  :)
